Kate Henz is Vice Provost for Strategy and Resource Management.
Henz provides collaborative leadership, counsel, and expertise to the Provost and senior members of the Provost’s office regarding comprehensive academic, financial, and operational planning. This role involves supporting the Provost and collaborating with other senior staff within the Provost’s office across various functional areas. The primary objective is to establish efficient structures and processes to allocate resources effectively and accountably in support of the academic mission.
Henz has over 20 years of higher education financial, personnel management and policy experience. She has extensive experience in a research university setting, with demonstrable success in project management and team building; direct experience in a shared service operation; experience in process improvement, data sharing and data management; experience in program evaluation; and deep experience in public budgeting, including capital budgeting and facility planning.
Henz previously served as senior associate dean in the College of Arts and Science, the largest academic affairs unit at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to that as associate vice president for policy, planning and analysis for UNC System Office, which gave her a comprehensive overview of academic and financial policy at the state level.
Before joining the UNC System Office in 2012, Henz was at the University of New Mexico, where her last position was financial officer in the Provost’s Office.
Prior to a career in higher education, Henz was a small enterprise development advisor for the United States Peace Corps serving in Ghana, West Africa, and prior to that, she worked at KPMG as an external auditor.
She holds a master’s in public administration from the University of New Mexico and a B.S. in finance from Santa Clara University.
