Barron Matherly provides financial and budget guidance to senior-level administrators, schools, centers and institutes, and oversees the Academic Finance Office and operations of the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost. His areas of responsibility include budget planning, tuition, student fees, and financial liaison to central business offices. He co-chairs the Annual Raise Process Steering Committee responsible for implementing annual salary increases for EHRA faculty and non-faculty employees. Matherly is also a member of the University Budget Committee, Finance Council, Student Fees Advisory Subcommittee, and Tuition Surcharge Committee and is a member of the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers.
Prior to his current position as Assistant Provost for Finance (1997-current), Matherly served UNC-Chapel Hill as Assistant Director of Payroll (1986-1988) and Assistant Director of the University Cashier’s Office (1988-1992). He was also employed as the Manager of Management Information and Compliance Review Services at the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (1992-1994). From 1994-1997, Matherly worked at NC State University as the Director of the University Cashier’s Office and Cash Management Coordinator.
A native of Lynchburg, Virginia, Matherly has lived in Wichita, Kansas and Tucson, Arizona. He is a graduate of Radford University in Radford, Virginia.
