As Associate Provost for Academic Initiatives, Dr. Tresolini provides administrative oversight for the centers and institutes reporting to the Office of the Provost, which are the  Ackland Art Museum, the American Indian Center, Carolina Center for Public Service, the  Institute for the Environment, the Carolina Women’s Center, the Center for Developmental Science, the Center for the Study of the American South, the Institute of African-American Research, The James B. Hunt, Jr., Institute for Educational Leadership and Policy, the Marine Sciences Program, the Microelectronics Program (Department of Biomedical Engineering), the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, the NC Botanical Garden, the NC Health Careers Access Program, the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History,  and the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education .  Dr. Tresolini also works with distance-learning initiatives and facilities planning initiatives.


Before joining the Provost’s Office, Carol was Associate Dean for Educational Development and Director of  the Office of Educational Development in the UNC School of Medicine.  In that role, she was responsible for faculty development, curriculum evaluation, the standardized patient programs, student assessment initiatives, and programs for minority student recruitment and retention. Previous experience has been with the Pew Health Professions Commission, mental health and correctional institutions, schools, and social service agencies.  A native of Pennsylvania, she holds a BA in Sociology from Duke University, an M.Ed. in Special Education from UNC-Chapel Hill, and a Ph.D. in Adult and Higher Education, also from Carolina.
