As the Chief Diversity Officer for the University, Dr. Ervin provides administrative leadership for the University’s implementation of Carolina’s Diversity Plan and supporting diversity programs and initiatives.

Prior to his appointment in 2005 as Associate Provost for Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, he served as Assistant to the Chancellor and Director for Minority Affairs (1999-2005).  He came to the University in 1986 when he was appointed as Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for University Affairs. He earned his Ph.D. from UNC Chapel Hill (1999) and his BA and MA degrees from Appalachian State University.
